Valentine’s Themed Holiday Cards
Project Overview:
Objective: Design a set of holiday cards with a Valentine's Day theme, incorporating illustration, typography, and cohesive design elements.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Designer, Illustrator, and Typographer, I created the illustrations, selected complementary typefaces, and arranged the elements to achieve a balanced and engaging layout.
Concept and Strategy:
Inspired by my affinity for pink and Valentine’s Day, I explored a holiday card theme with a Valentine's twist, as suggested by Professor Strong. This concept allowed me to merge holiday charm with Valentine's aesthetic, making the project both timely and enjoyable.
Process:
Each card began with either a concept for the illustration or a phrase. I then paired an illustration to enhance the phrase or developed a phrase to highlight the illustration. This flexible approach allowed for creative experimentation.
Challenges:
Two main challenges were establishing a clear hierarchy without overcrowding the cards and managing project scope. To overcome layout challenges, I sought feedback from classmates on element arrangement. Originally planned as 30 cards, I reduced the quantity to maintain quality within time constraints.
Triumphs:
I’m especially proud of my growth in illustration, evolving from basic techniques to more refined visuals, and of the cohesive color palette, which added unity to the set.
Skills Acquired:
This project enhanced my skills in transferring Procreate files to Illustrator and deepened my understanding of digital illustration techniques.
Time Spent:
I logged 21 hours on this project.
Lessons Learned:
This project boosted my confidence in illustration, inspiring me to integrate it more broadly in my work and consider showcasing it on my website.
